SC Gov. Nikki Haley is white

English: South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley

Nikki Haley is of Indian ethnicity.  Indian is NOT a race it is a brown ethnic group found within the Caucasian persuasion.  I don’t know why people insist on equating north Indians, not Native Americans, as black or minority.  They are in NO way black, they have melanin, but are not browns.  It’s like saying a dark Italian who lives here is a minority.  Yes, in the sense that they are part of a ethnic group like Mediterranean, which is one classification of white folks.

Not everyone is Anglo-Saxon. That is not the only way to be white.  One way is to come to America and you will be granted whiteness when you get off the boat or plane or out of the Rio Grande.  Mexicans are white according to the government, your feds.   It’s also been boiled down to two ethnic groups: hispanic and non hispanic.  Nikki would be a non hispanic white or Asian.  But technically Asians are Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.  Asia is a country.  Pakistanis, Iranians, and Persians (Indians) are Aryans by birth by language root because they are part of the  Indo-European language family.

Natasha Curry: TV Anchor, Biracial beauty–updated

Come on ladies: weave does not make you white nor a nose job. In looking at both photos I suspect that Miss Curry had a little plastic surgery.  A little goes a long way and it is not uncommon among African Americans or women of any ethnicity including a mixed one.

Beyond Black: Biracial Identity in America

I highly recommend this book: Curly Like Me: How to Grow Your Hair Healthy, Long, and Strong (See all Hair Beauty & Fashion Books)

Her maiden name is Vantramp and she was born in Washington state. That state has a high rate of interracial marriages from the statistics.

Here’s what one person found and left this comment on her research on Miss Curry, who is most popular. Thanks so much for the info from this reader.

More genealogy research…
I have confirmed that Natasha Curry’s mother is Charlein CURRY, daughter of Maj. General Jerry Ralph CURRY, U.S. Army, retired, (b. 7 Sep 1932, living) and Charlene Elaine COOPER (b. 15 Aug 1935, d. 24 Sep 2010). Charlene is the author of “The General’s Lady, God’s Faithfulness to a Military Spouse”.

[Apparently, Natasha decided that "Vantramp" wasn't a particularly good name for a television career, so she started using her mother's surname. She is also, justifiably, quite proud of her maternal grandparents.]

This page includes a photo of Natasha Curry’s maternal grandparents, Charlene and Jerry:

Jerry R CURRY was born 7 Sep 1932 in Liberty, Pennsylvania, the son of Jesse Aaron CURRY (b. abt 1905, Virginia) and Marion Mercer SHIFLET (b. abt 1912, Virginia). On the 1930 US Census, McKeesport, Pennsylvania, their race is listed as “negro”; however, on the 1920 US Census, South River, Virginia, Mercer SHIFLET’s race (and that of her father) is given as “mulatto”, while her mother’s race is given as “black”.

Charlene COOPER’s parents (Natasha’s other maternal great-grandparents) are Charles Eli COOPER (1878-1960) of Florida and “Pinkie” HARRELL (1898-1982) of North Carolina. Charlene COOPER’s racial background is very similar to that of her husband. On the 1930 US Census, her parents’ race is listed as “negro”; however, there is a 1920 US Census record on which Charlie COOPER’s race is listed as “mulatto” while his mother’s race is given as “black”. That would suggest that Natasha Curry is, at most, 3/8ths black. [I hope no one takes exception to any of this terminology; genealogists simply report what the historical records say.]

The bottom line is: the CURRY and COOPER families have both been racially-mixed for quite a long time. It is always a mistake to assume that this is a recent phenomenon.

Natasha’s top photo, standing, is from 2007. She probably has been growing her hair for a while.  However, today on HLN it looks like she has added some dreaded weave to her hair, which is already nice.  If you notice the two photos, Natasha is clearly olive-skinned and looks black, and not biracial.  My children who are not biracial are actually a perfect example of the look, sandy hair, green eyes and fair golden skin.

But in the bottom photo Curry looks much fairer with a better grade of hair. We also know of Michael Jackson’s famously racial phenotypical changes!

We know from experience that weave is not good for the hair over the long haul. It leaves bald spots. From this top photo she clearly looks black, not white just by the grade of her hair. Heloise is working on a book to help women of color grow their hair long…so hang on ladies…

There may not be any online photos of Curry parents like no pics of Cheyenne Woods white mom. Trust me Natasha is biracial. She often sits in for Robin Meade. Curry’s hair is much longer than current photo.

First draft: While I was away at the Bay in January 2011–I turned on the TV in my hotel room I saw Miss Curry’s face. She has a great look and figure. But if you look at her high, very high forehead that is also slightly bulging you have to know that along with her olive skin she is not Anglo-Saxon. I also note her hairline, short rounded nose, wide nostrils (not uncommon in some nordic types though) and her eyes are the exact same color as my children (if they are hazel/green) which is an indicator of racial mixing.  So, for those reasons and others not shared here I put Natasha Curry on my list.I’ve been meaning to include her on my list of biracial beauties for a long time. I am part creole and the women in my family on my mother’s side reflect it too. I plan a gallery with their pictures this summer. But Natasha Curry: my take is that her dad is probably white and her mother a woman who is probably a fair-skinned black woman. It could be the reverse though. I do not think she is a creole and she is not from New Orleans. She does not look exotic enough to me to be a New Orleans creole.

My best guess is that since one parent is white, dad most likely, and her mother also racially mixed that would give her about 20-25% African American in genes. This photo is more recent, maybe from 2009.  This looks like her hair has grown out from above. But could still have chemical help.
