Caylee Anthony–Drowning Defense

Total case of child neglect proving that all child-bearing women with vaginas don’t need to push babies out of them.

(CNN) — Two-year-old Caylee Anthony was not murdered by her mother as prosecutors maintain, but drowned in the family’s pool in June 2008, Casey Anthony’s defense attorney told jurors during opening statements Tuesday.

Casey Anthony and her father, George Anthony, panicked upon finding the child, Jose Baez said. Anthony found her father cradling Caylee’s body the morning of June 16, 2008, he said, and George Anthony yelled at his daughter, “Look what you’ve done. Your mother will never forgive you.” He told her she would go to jail for child neglect, Baez said.

“This is a tragedy that snowballed out of control,” Baez said. “This is not a murder case. This is not a manslaughter case … this is a tragic accident that happened to some very disturbed people.”

Anthony is accused of killing Caylee in 2008 and lying about it to investigators. The Orlando trial, which comes after nearly three years of legal twists, turns and delays, has garnered interest nationwide…[did this happen as well?]

Anthony was taught from an early age to behave as if nothing was wrong, he said, describing an incident where she went to school and behaved normally at age 13 after performing oral sex on her father. George Anthony sat stone-faced in the gallery as Baez made the allegations.

Anthony put her head on the shoulder of another defense attorney and sobbed as Baez spoke.

Caylee drowned in the pool. While it takes a higher-education to fully understand, that is the position of the defense. And, a drowning by accident is not murder, not even a crime at all. 🙂

  2. Drowning by accident is not a crime. It’s what came after, if in fact it was an accidental drowning, that is a crime. Not reporting a death, mistreating a corpse, covering up a crime, and asking to “borrow a shovel” from a neighbor don’t help either, aiding and abeting a crime or coverup. Then if it was MURDER it could be capital in fact.

Casey case quacks like a duck under water.

Not a crime of murder as charged. The prosecution has no case at all now. At least she will become an instant millionaire after Baez gets done with all the lawsuits against the state, the county, and the media entities.

  4. Hmm, Michelle I just found the following:

Wikipedia: On October 14, 2008, Casey Anthony was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and was arrested for the fourth time.[32] She entered a plea of not-guilty to the charges that she killed Caylee.[28] On October 21, 2008, the charges of child neglect were dropped against Casey. In a statement that morning, the State Attorney’s Office explained: “The neglect charges were premised on the theory that her child, Caylee Marie, was still alive. As the investigation progressed and it became clear that the evidence proved that the child was deceased, the State sought an indictment on the legally appropriate charges.”[33]

On April 14, 2009, prosecutors announced that they plan to seek the death penalty in this case.[34] Casey Anthony and her family maintain that she is innocent of all charges.[35]

Reuters: The jury was picked over 11 days from residents of Pinellas County on Florida’s west coast, two hours drive from Orlando, in order to find people who had not been subjected to the intense media coverage of the crime.

Anthony, 25, is charged with killing the girl and then hiding her body in woods near her home.

The two sources above are what my search yielded. You must be thinking of the initial charges which did not include murder. She is on trial for murder and it is a death penalty case. At first she was charged with other stuff, but not now.

Why the prosecution doesn’t want to win the case remains a mystery.
