DWTS: Kicks off tonight

Nancy Grace at her book party for her new book...

Dancing with the stars was off to a rocky start.  Most of the dancers got low scores.  I was watching for Nancy Grace.  She’s kinda funny in that she was smiling and did not try very hard to dance and seemed like she did not really want to be there.  I hope she gets her head into the dance floor and she can go far.  She’s also quite plump.  Perhaps she wants to lose weight like other people.

Then there was Chaz Bono who did not bomb.  The rest are really not stars in my books.  Don’t know them but some are pretty famous.  The Kardashians were there.  That Kim is goregous but her brother did not do well and he did not get the good looks either.

The Big Lie

If Obama can pull off this tax hike coup he might have a chance at re election.  Why? Because we have all know for a long time that not hiking taxes on the rich is a big lie.  If Bush was able to get away with it does not mean it was real.  The thing is we see the results.  I am not for big government and the big rollout of tanks across the global landscape but I am for taxing the rich at a higher rate.

When I was doing my taxes a few years back and looked at the tax rates for those making say 20,000 a year.  I thought why should anyone making that amount have a tax rate at all? But they did and if single they had to pay at the 33% rate like everybody else.  A brand new grad from college with a brand new job was pretty much in the poor house unless they could use some of the many tax loopholes.  At this point with my salary and my nearing retirement I put away a large part of my salary into more than one place.  I will get Social Security and pension from the TRA and whatever savings, selling house if I want to, and downsizing for retirement.

But I was able to use the same loopholes that the rich do and decided I am not going to pay a whole lot of taxes for them to spend it on killing people or plain wasting it.  I was formerly a welfare mom, a college student raising two kids, and welfare was a temporary thing for me and many other I knew.  But for the vast majority of black women in Chicago it was a lifestyle and that’s sad.

My college degrees have paid for themselves many times over.  I was lucky I only owed 12,000 when I graduated and I paid it off pretty quickly.  But my daughter owes six figures for her education.

We have got to raise taxes on the rich and stop wasting money on the wrong things whatever that is.  In my book it’s mostly war and rebuilding other countries.

Ralph Nader at it again

President Obama’s smooth path to the Democratic nomination may have gotten rockier Monday, after a group of liberal leaders, including former presidential candidate Ralph Nader, announced plans to challenge the incumbent in primaries next year.

The group said the goal is to offer up a handful of candidates from various fields and areas where the president either has failed to stake out a “progressive” position or where he has “drifted toward the corporatist right.”

“Without debates by challengers inside the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries, the liberal/majoritarian agenda will be muted and ignored,” Mr. Nader said in a news release. “The one-man Democratic primaries will be dull, repetitive, and draining of both voter enthusiasm and real bright lines between the two parties that excite voters.”

In search of candidates, Mr. Nader and the others sent out a letter, endorsed by 45 “distinguished leaders,”to elected officials, civic leaders, academics and members of the progressive community who specialize among other things in labor, poverty, military and foreign policy. The list, they said, also includes progressive Democrats who have held national and state office and have fought for progressive reforms.

What if Sarah Palin were black?

Sarah Palin at the Time 100 Gala, in Manhattan...

I keep reading all the bad news for Obama. And indeed, nothing personal, he has not done the job he was hired to do.  But with the whispers that we don’t need to add Sarah Palin to the mix, she claims to be adding herself.  I wonder aloud what would things be like politically speaking if Sarah were black?

Yes, she’s hot to trot and many men have expressed that idea when she was first trotted out by the GOP and McCain.  What else is new?  If the black Sarah were just as hot the first thing we would hear “she got the job because she looks good!”  What an airhead, black people are dumb and black women are hoes.  Pretty much what we heard about white Sarah right?

First of all she would not be getting all continuous press or it would be too much to bear.  If John McCain had picked Sarah, all things being equal, a black woman, as his running mate where would we be now.  If the black Sarah was just like the white Sarah, except she was black, would she still be the laughing stock of the dems?  Would she receive the unending speculation? Would John McCain have lost by more points?

What if they had won?  Would the world, at least in the USA, talk about how off task she is? How impossible it is to get anything out of her but a speech?

Five bikers found dead at event

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2011-09-18/biker-deaths-tennessee/50457812/1

Three men and two women were found in the RV at the Clarksville Speedway about noon and there was no sign of foul play, Clarksville police spokesman Jim Knoll said.

The head of Bikers Who Care, the charity that organized the event, said he heard someone shouting that all of the people in the trailer were dead. The event festivities came to an abrupt halt as ambulances arrived.

“This is a tragic accident,” Bill Langford said. “It’s horrible.”…

Langford said it appears a small storage hatch on the RV did not close properly, allowing fumes from the generator to leak inside the vehicle.

The bikers who found the bodies were taken to a hospital after feeling dizzy and light-headed, Langford said. They all had high amounts of carbon monoxide in their systems, he said.

WTF? Netflix splits in Two

In 1998 Reed Hastings founded Netflix, the lar...

Hell, we need to split Reed Hastings in two for this debacle that will cost jobs and his bottom line. Also the streaming is limited: also from

CNN: As website Stop the Cap points out, Netflix has always had a policy that limited streaming, with those on a single DVD or streaming-only plan limited to streaming one film at a time.

But it appears as if Netflix just started enforcing this rule on September 1. The changes seem to coincide with Netflix’s price hike, which took effect on Sept. 1 as well. Now, if you attempt to launch two movie streams, Netflix will block it and tell you that your membership plan doesn’t support multiple movie streams.

This is the kind of shit that makes subscribers really mad.  I had to change my package and I will miss unlimited streaming.  I will see if it improves and if so will go to that now on a new site! Again, WTF is up with that move? They say it is to better improve.  No, I take that back, Netflix will be where the streaming is found and Quixster will be where the DVDs come from.  How stupid.  I don’t buy the explanation either.  Yeah the CEO made a big mistake and he admits it but it could also sent Netflix stock reeling and even sound the death knell of the brand.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/19/tech/web/netflix-qwikster/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

Netflix is rebranding its 12-year-old movies-by-mail service as Qwikster and adding video games to its catalog, Reed Hastings, the company’s CEO, announced Sunday night. The Web-streaming portion will continue to be called Netflix, he wrote on the company’s blog.

After the separation, people who subscribe to both services will have to log into two separate websites, Netflix.com and Qwikster.com, to manage their movie queues and account information, Hastings wrote. Customer reviews and ratings from Netflix will be ported to Qwikster for the launch, but after that, people will have to rate and search for movies on each site separately, he wrote.

Qwikster’s site currently presents a landing page that says it is “launching soon.” Hastings did not offer a timeline for Qwikster’s debut. Andy Rendich, the operations chief and 12-year veteran of the company, will run the new mail-order arm.
