The country of Japan has just ordered 42 F-35 jet fighters. Is it because they don’t trust their neighbor Korea now that the dictator is dead and his son has replaced him? I saw it on a paper headline today that Japan is buying this aircraft. Can it be used to carry nukes, not sure. But they are not for planning birthday parties.
This is good news for Lockheed Martin though. It will secure 6,000 jobs and add more jobs and impact the local economy.
‘Rigorous competition’The Japanese government and Defense Ministry had spent more than a year evaluating whether to equip its air force with older fighters and their simpler but less costly technology and designs or to reach for the under-development F-35 and its cutting-edge stealth, electronic-warfare and weapons-targeting technologies.Winning the first head-to-head competition makes Japan’s decision all the more meaningful, O’Bryan said.”Japan has always flown cutting-edge, frontline fighters,” O’Bryan said. “They’re a demanding customer that always holds a fair and rigorous competition.”The F-35 has been under development since 2001 by a partnership of the United States and eight other nations, each of which contributed funding to the development program and have committed to eventually buy the aircraft.
