News Corp today announced that The Daily, it’s iPad-only digital newspaper publication, would be stopping its standalone publication effective December 15, 2012. The Daily will continue as a brand as part of “other channels,” according to a News Corp press release, including The New York Post, which will adopt its technology section and other components, as well as take on some of its staff.
The Daily Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editor of The New York Post will shift into the role of Publisher of that publication. Rupert Murdoch said in a canned statement from a press release describing a number of organizational changes at News Corp that while The Daily was a “bold experiment” and “amazing vehicle for innovation,” it didn’t manage to find a large enough audience to prove sustainable in the long term.
