We need preventive medicine now
I learned something when my kids were growing up. We were broke but not poor as I was in grad school in southern Illinois and my kids attended the only high school with children of professors and doctors and lawyers. We had a nice apt on campus but little money.
My kids would tell me about the beer parties the high school students would host when the parents were out of town or on vacation. My kids did not attend. I never had STREET DRUGS OF ANY KIND, PRESCRIPTION DRUGS OF ANY KIND, BEER, WINE, CIGARETTES, GUNS, OR WEAPONS IN THE HOUSE. This is what I taught my kids without saying a word. They never saw me imbibe any of the above because that was beyond my spirititual beliefs. They were surprised at what the middle class white kids would get into and so was I.
I also learned from other teen relatives that often the parents had the street drugs in the home and that is where the kids got their hits too. So a thought crossed my mind: How much of this is related to SES and available money for kids who do not work?
My kids did not have money to buy beer or guns and I certainly never had them around for them to “borrow” or go to shooting range with. Children who are not our own and those who are our own learn what they see and are taught in non verbal manners. The violent video games and movies are all apart of the mix.
This is why this issue is so difficult. Gun laws are on the books. We don’t need the bullets that kill the shit out of a person nor the handguns. But then again we don’t need the alcohol that often fuels these fires. What to do? Point the finger and the blame where it lies. These school killings only happened among middle class white areas almost exclusively. Most of the shooters were white or NOT black but Asian.
In general due to economic restraists blacks don’t buy rifles and expensive guns and killing machines. Where would they store them? And if they could store them how would they buy them and the bullets to go with them. Why would they buy them when they have precious little money for other things they would first ask themselves. Not saying they are better parents but it is a financial reality.
What would solve this problem that is so multi-faceted? Who is to blame: society, parents, guns available legally and illegally, violent culture, revenge gang crimes.
The list goes on. On the other side of the rifle coin we have urban blacks using and buying handguns which were banned in Chicago. Mind you they are cheaper weapons and so are the bullets and also easier to get by anyone. But they still kill one person one black boy or girl or child at a time. No one with a handgun is going to a school and shoot it up. They won’t get too far. But they will do a drive by and kill whomever they can who LOOKS like them.
Yes, blacks and browns have more crimes on the books than whites. But does it matter? If you think it matters then you are also on the side of where parents and fathers have gone wrong by their absence in the life of their sons, their black and brown sons who commit most of these violent crimes. Why can’t this be applied to whites and their money and their big guns?
Here’s the comment I just posted at the reblogged post on Bikram:
Hi, I just wrote a blog at heloise8/the trough about my experiences with hot yoga. Anyone can go directly to the studio or check online because the studios often have the 10 days for 20 dollars to try their instructors.
By doing this I was able to go to at least 3 hot studios. I recently went to Bikrams for the first time. I won’t go back here’s why: the had carpeting on the floor and by the second class it smelled so bad in there I could not breathe.
Then the class is long and hot but I am OCD so I can hang in there. But as you said in your post damn it’s the same stretch and hold postures each time.
After all the tryouts I have decided on Baptiste trained instructors for hot yoga. The studio is clean and well lit and the instructors are very welll trained and challenge you with different poses and don’t scold you if you need to stop or take a break.
I even did my first back bend with help there.
I plan to sign a one year contract with them.
Keep looking around your town if you think yoga is for you. I like it because it’s like dance and I’ve been going to classes on and off for 30 years.
I took and have been taking yoga classes on and off for the last 30 years or so. But the last year I’ve decided to get serious about it. I had a membership at the local Y and took yoga classes there and was able to ride my bike to and fro class during the summer. I was looking lean and mean.
Then I switched and joined LA Fitness and took yoga classes there too. I found that the instructors at LA were not of the calibre that I was looking for. One instructor, a lot like Bikram yoga but not a hot variety, did the exact same routine the whole time over and over and at each class. Not only was it boring and predictable but it made my arms hurt because we stayed in down dog nearly the whole time because we returned to it every other posture.
Yes, down dog is a part of any yoga routine because it is part of the flow of the asanas where the body goes back to a basic move…if you call hanging your head down and in an upside-down V normal!
But the instructors at Baptiste are well taught and well qualified and challenge their students. They do a few too many headstands for my taste. But last night guess what with the help of the instructor I went into a back bend and she held my waist as I carefully landed my hands on the floor in a perfect back bend. First one ever.
I am also able to do a good solid shoulder stand and the plough which go together. I think losing weight has helped me to stretch and do more postures.
I found out that calories and eating fewer of them helps to lose the weight. I am still working toward my goal of losing at least 5 more pounds and toning up as much as possible the hanging stuff. But I look pretty good in my clothes and getting lots of compliments these days.
My lunch consists of a trail mix that I put together myself. I go to the local market that has bulk bins. I buy 3 or 4 different types of mix and then when I get home mix them all together. For lunch I take a couple of small portions and mix it with Rice check cereal in an 8 ounce covered bowl.
That way I get good fats, carbs and vitamins.
For dinner I am making my own meals. Typically make a big pot of seasoned lentils, freeze parts of it and eat it for the rest of the week with other things I buy or have in my fridge. The main thing is that it is keeping my digestive system in tip top shape, if you know what I mean.
When the attack is personal and names called out then it is over the top.
(CNN) – Rush Limbaugh’s apology for labeling a law student a “slut” and “prostitute” failed to stem an exodus of advertisers from his radio show, as another company said Monday it was withdrawing spots from the conservative program.
AOL, along with 11 other companies, announced plans to remove ads from “The Rush Limbaugh Show,” which is the most listened to talk radio show in the United States.

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. [Don’t lead with self-congratulation. If you’re aiming for self-pity, that’s also not the way to start an apology. After all, you’re not making the case that your remarks were the result of sleep deprivation or a medical crisis caused by overwork. Underlining that you get paid millions of dollars to sit in front of a microphone 15 hours a week does not create sympathy.] In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. [This wasn’t an errant remark, but a three-day attack. You pretty much ran through a thesaurus’ worth of synonyms to characterize Ms. Fluke, and you make your living choosing words. An apology should not drip with insincerity.] I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke. [This is false on its face, so not a good strategy.]

Dunham was so impressed by Evie’s beef steak and fried rice that she offered her a job in the family home. It didn’t take long before Evie also was 8-year-old Barry’s caretaker, playing with him and bringing him to and from school.
Neighbors recalled that they often saw Evie leave the house in the evening fully made up and dressed in drag. But she says it’s doubtful Barry ever knew.
“He was so young,” says Evie. “And I never let him see me wearing women’s clothes. But he did see me trying on his mother’s lipstick, sometimes. That used to really crack him up.”

http://www.newsday.com/sports/college/college-football/tcu-football-players-caught-in-drug-sting-1.3531890 Who are the football players at TCU? The names later in the day.
The link for the story at the Star Telegram is broken but marijuana, pills and weapons were found when a bunch of folks from Texas Christian University were arrested today in a huge drug bust that the school said was unprecedented.
The list of the those arrested will be posted later today but I heard it on the radio and it is not really online at this time. Is it because more blacks and browns have been admitted to TCU to people the various teams?
Universities have always have problems with drug selling on campus. Why is this one different? Maybe professors were involved too. No, we found out that it was football players from their stellar team.
I know TCU well because I’ve taken grad courses there and I ride by bike by there all summer because I live nearby. The demographics have changed over the past 10 years I know that much. More later
Once Upon a Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and Its Aftermath on sale at Amazon at #28 in books already. JFK does sell well.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/08/mimi-alford-interview-jfk-intern-affair_n_1264144.html In case you missed the interview on Rock Center.
You can see the 68 YO woman talk about it at the link. There is also a pic of her as an intern. She went for a swim in the pool then for a sexual swim in Jackie’s bedroom! Wow. I think JFK was suffering from depression because he raised himself. His mother was neglectful and his father was pretty much absent but influential in his affairs. Mimi is right to come clean after 40 years because secrets are deadly. She speaks candidly. And what else has written a book about the affair. “Alford says that she lost her virginity to the president in the first lady’s bedroom. In her soon to be released memoir, Once Upon a Secret My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and its Aftermath…”
By Jessica Hopper
Mimi Alford is speaking publicly for the first time about the secret she’s held for half a century. Alford claims that she had an 18-month-long affair with President John F. Kennedy when she was a White House intern.
“I think when you keep a secret and when you keep silent about something, you do it because you think it’s keeping you safe, but in fact, it’s deadly,” Alford told Meredith Vieira in an exclusive interview scheduled to air Wednesday on NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams.
In 1962, a 19-year-old Alford spent her summer in Washington, D.C., interning in the White House press office. She had just finished her freshman year at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. Four days into her internship, Alford claims that JFK aide, David Powers, invited her to go swimming in the White House pool. Alford was surprised when the 45-year-old president joined her and two others in the pool.

In case you missed it: Komen Foundation has reinstated funding to Planned Parenthood.
It makes me laugh every time I see the “pink” stuff that comes from the greedy Komen foundation. They are concerned about “pink” women, which I know to be code for white women. That’s easy because by percentages Jewish (white) women are more likely to contract breast cancer than any other group. Komen is Jewish and her organization wants to help white women primarily and anybody else, well, that’s an aside.
Komen is headed by a Jewish woman Karen Handel who is the one who pushed the defunding of Planned Parenthood.
I have not check the stats but if I did I would have to say that Jewish women probably have the lowest rate of abortion than any other group for a number of reasons. They believe in marriage, and they believe in propagating the race and they usually have the resources and the means to have a “private” abortion or to keep the baby.
Do they care about funding Planned Parenthood? I don’t think so. I’ve used PP in the past. The focus was always two things: contraceptives (freely given) and abortion referral (at an affordable cost). In Chicago they were downtown. You could also get a PAP smear from them and a general check up. I got free contraceptives such as the diaphragm from them. It worked well and there were few side effects.
But for anyone to tell you that their primary purpose is breast cancer detection it wasn’t in my day. Oh of course they would feel your breasts for lumps but that was about it. How much does it take to do that? But as far as mamograms they did not do those. I don’t believe in them anyway and I’ve been proven correct on that score. Mamograms should be used rarely and wisely and not commonly.
Is PP a good thing? For women of color and those who don’t have the resources of middle class white women or any class it is essential. It gives you a sense of control.
As for Catholics and their rant over have to conform: they are hypocrites to think that Catholics some don’t practic birth control. What would Kennedy do? I think he would probably uphold what the Catholics want. Mind you abortion was still not widespread in the 1960s but women were still getting abortions if they had the money and the birth control was on the black market for women who knew where to go.
Komen cares about Komen’s own: Jewish, white women who are genetically predisposed for breast cancer.

Howard and wife Michelle Ghent (biracial Eurasian IMO) are in divorce mode. She is calling him the N word. I’ve seen this often in mixed race couples. The white partner resorts to calling the black one the N word or their family does it. He has allegedly thought about killing himself and is also exhibiting tons of self-destructive behavior. Terrance you got money–get help before it’s too late.
11) Over Thanksgiving weekend, Terrence Howard called Michelle Ghent Howard and told her “I felt like killing myself today.” He stalked her for several days after, on the telephone, until he sent the following email on Dec. 2:
“If you wanted, you could crush me with the push of a button. I have no recourse, I have pleaded with Jehovah to fortify my heart that I do not fall into angry and revengeful retaliation against my forsaken love.
