President Kennedy recorded more than 260 hours of his life in the White House, unbeknownst to even his top aides. Now the Kennedy library has released (free download) the final 45 hours of the archives, providing a rare window into Kennedy’s life in the three months before his assassination in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. The Daily Beast rounds up the most interesting excerpts.
1. Fretting Over Income Inequality
In a conversation with aides that could come straight out of a modern White House, Kennedy worries about income inequality and the difficulty of appealing to young voters. “What is it we have to sell them?” Kennedy asks an aide in November 1963. “We hope we have to sell them prosperity, but for the average guy the prosperity is nil. He’s not unprosperous but he’s not very prosperous; he’s not going to make out well off. And the people who really are well off hate our guts.”

Anton Yelchin moved to America from the Soviet Union in 1989, when he was just 6 months old. His parents, Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin, were stars of the Leningrad Ice Ballet, and had even qualified for the 1972 Winter Olympics in figure-skating pairs but were barred from participating by the Soviet government.
“I don’t exactly know what that was—because they were Jewish or because the KGB didn’t want them to travel,” said Yelchin in an interview with The Daily Beast. The family, which was quite well off by Soviet standards, sold all their worldly possessions—their home, their summer house, even their family jewelry, since the Soviet authorities wouldn’t let them take it—and immigrated to the U.S. as refugees who didn’t speak a word of English. Joined by Irina’s father, who had recently suffered a stroke, and Viktor’s mother, they eventually settled into a tiny apartment in West Hollywood.
this article reminds me of what’s wrong with black people. I mean we don’t toot our own horns enough. I mean you take one little ugly immigrant Russian Jew put him in front of a camera and the Jewish journalists in the media crawl all over his character and set him up as the next Jewish Robert Redford. Yes, he is probably smart, what else is new? But black folks don’t push black stars enough especially the new ones who were born right here as were their parents and great grand parents. But that does not count anymore does it?

Tina Brown and Arianna Huffington have both been given the reins of two large white, male dominated media Newsweek and AOL. The women got balls but the public is gasping at how the media takeovers and buyouts and sellouts are faring. From what I have read, not so swell. The following links size it up nicely. AOL stocks have plunged and Newsweek, is well, not so newsy and not so weekly.
The message from Condi is simple and it is not really from her but her parents: “being black is inescapable but somehow we escaped!” The irony is also historical. If you read a few books or watch a movie or two you will know that JFK had to talk the black revs of the south into trusting him and voting for him.
The call made to King’s wife when he was in jail helped cinch it. But black folks were Republicans. Republican is a party it does NOT mean conservating automatically. This is what I railed about when Bush was running up the debt and starting Iraq war. Is this man a conservative I railed to the GOP. Then they started repeating it because it made sense.
We must separate the GOP from the conservative…enter Tea Party.
Condi is a Republican and black and southern and that equation works historically. She writes to remind us she is a black woman who came from two good parents.
I am a conservative, and independent and I just want to vote for someone who is not going to give the damn country away to special interest, lobbies, The Chicoms, and the Mexicans. Does that politician who is not a career politico exist even?
I am not sure. And people like Condi, Powell, Tenet et al are a disgrace to the conservative race!
I wrote this comment in response to the good book review by Carter on The Daily Beast run by Tina Brown (British Jew). Condi has written a memoir Extraordinary Ordinary People. It is about her parents not her.
25 Ways to get smarter in 2010I am actually going to look into the Sante Fe literary offering.
25 Smartest People of the decade list created by a bunch of Jewish Harvard eggheads has been published at Tina Brown’s Daily Beast and NOT ONE black or brown person on the list! But guess what? At 3% of the US population half of the list is made up of Jewish people!
So this story goes in the pig trough. Oprah and others make many lists usually for the amount of money or political clout or influence. I know black folks are not as smart as white people but give me a break. Not one black person made this list? Black are convenient when it comes to the best athelete or some other bullshit but when it comes to brains we are no where in sight.
To prove my point I went back to the list and counted and listed the number of Jewish men on the list. I counted 11. I posted the list and their rank on “The Trough Reports.” And they occupy the top spots as well. The top Jews in the world are the two co-founders of Google — Brin and Page. Yes, they are both Jewish, I double checked.
TDB is the only site that is carrying a story about Dr. Klein’s dirty past as booted med student from U Penn years ago. It takes a lot to get kicked out of med school. Klein crossed the line clearly.
One of Klein’s Penn colleagues thought that Klein might have been influenced by a book he cowrote, Drug Trip Abroad: American Drug-Refugees in Amsterdam and London, which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 1972, a year after Klein graduated cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Shelley said he believed that Klein had obtained his medications from Mexico.
“That book immersed him in the drug world,” a fellow physician told me. “It might have been the catalyst for what got him into trouble with the school administration.”
No mr. innocent when it comes to Klein. He dribbles the truth as I said before when he is not pitching downright lies.
Wolfram Alpha, the newbie, launches today per CNN.
Updated article from The Daily Beast where this new engine was tested.
In testing by The Daily Beast, Wolfram Alpha easily computed a variety of facts: Which European country has the most Internet users? How many people are alive today with the name “Nicholas”? What is the height of the Empire State Building divided by the length of the Triborough Bridge? How do oil exports in Iraq compare to those of Kuwait? What are the monthly payments on a 20-year, 5% fixed-rate mortgage with a loan of $200,000? What is the body mass index of a person who is six feet tall and weighs 200 pounds? What nutrients are in two Snickers bars?
It works as I expect it would you put in your long question and you draw back a short answer that details only what you need to know. It searches millions of sites maybe, and then compiles one conclusion. One, the power of one revisted.
That’s good for many of my queries and will save time. If you are satisfied with the results, then you can link or blockquote it.
Will that be enough? Well, it may not be good news for bloggers hoping their site to show up on the search. It appears that will not be the case.
If this new thing gets going and promises what it can get then maybe searchers will find my many answers to questions posed on rebirth, life and death.
The new system, Wolfram Alpha, showcased at Harvard University in the US last week, takes the first step towards what many consider to be the internet’s Holy Grail – a global store of information that understands and responds to ordinary language in the same way a person does.
Hope so. Here’s finding you. This could be the fiddle on the roots that gives google a run for its money.
